Session Two - A Day of Gymkhana

Dear Camp Families,

Jacqui consoling Georgia and Merango after their loss in Musical Stalls
Yesterday we had our gymkhana day and competed for points for our Boy Band Competition!  We had a really great day of fun in the sun!  The weather was AMAZING and the team spirit  was even better than the beautiful weather!  I overheard one of the campers say that one of the best parts of Pony Farm was the support she gets from the other campers and staff!

In the  morning we had 5 different stations and played Cup of Sunshine, Rock and Spoon, Dizzy Crop, Musical Stalls, and Sit a Buck!   The Senior Staff stayed in the ring and ran the station while the CITs moved with their lesson groups from station to station!  Every 15 minutes or so we were moving!  It was a wonderful morning filled with laughter, smiles, and cheering!

Let the games begin!
In the afternoon there were 2 Gambler Choice courses or an option for the Pussiance. Campers were signed up  for one of the activities by the Senior Staff based on the camper’s riding ability and their horse or ponies ability.   The staff made impressive Gambler Choice courses!  We had a flat and jumping course!  The flat Gambler’s Choice had stop signs, a bean bag toss game, mailboxes, and much more.  The jumping Gambler’s Choice had flowers, buckets, pool noodles, lead ropes and halters, a skinny jump, a liverpool, a fan jump, hay bales as jumps, there was even a jump that had Marshmallow, our over sized stuffed animal in it.  The premise of a Gambler’s Choice is the rider has 2.5 minutes to accrue as many points as they can.  Each jump as a point value to it based on what it is made of.  The catch is you can only do 1 jump as many as 3 times and the rider picks their own course. These activities were beautifully run by Becky O, Lucy, Nora, Jill, Eryn, and Sophia with the rest of the counselors kept the barns manned and organized, cheered on their boy bands, and managed gates!

Musical Stalls at it's finest!
In the Puissance, a line is set up. Everyone does the line ones and then the jump is raised.  The catch again is that if you knock down a pole, the horse or pony runs out or refuses, or if the rider has accomplished their goal they are done.  The Puissance was well run by Nora, Meg, and Shira with the whole camp cheering on the riders and ponies.

Last night we watched The Saddle Club as our Saturday Night Movie!  (Because what other movie would you watch at a horse camp!)

All the Best,
Becky
